The Spray That Makes Water Run Off the Sink
Lifeproof is one broad-use bottle for sinks, glass, fixtures and sealed counters. spotLESS is a more specialized bathroom system with separate formulas for the toilet, mirror and sink. The water-beading effect looks similar; what you can safely coat is not.
The water beads up, rolls away, and makes the whole idea instantly convincing
A freshly cleaned sink can look spotted again after one hand wash. A mirror catches mist, a faucet catches fingerprints, and the toilet develops a line exactly where nobody wants to scrub. These sprays caught attention because the result is visible in seconds: water gathers into round drops instead of spreading across the surface.
That does not mean the bathroom cleans itself. The coating goes on after the old soap film, mineral scale and fingerprints are removed. Its useful job begins with the next mess: water and residue have a slicker surface to land on, so routine wiping may take less effort.
Lifeproof is the simpler one-bottle route
Lifeproof Home is a water-based SiO₂ coating that cures into a very thin, transparent layer. The maker lists stainless-steel, copper, porcelain and marble sinks; glass and mirrors; stainless fixtures and appliances; and many sealed countertop materials. That makes it the easier choice when the annoying surfaces around the home are made from several different materials.
The same bottle does not last equally everywhere. Lifeproof lists roughly two to six months for sinks and three to six months for shower glass, while the six-to-twelve-month claim belongs mainly to lower-touch areas. Those are manufacturer estimates, not an independent promise for every home.
spotLESS is the more exact bathroom route—and it is not one universal bottle
The spotLESS Bathroom Starter Set separates the job into Toilet Coating, Glass & Mirror Coating, and Sink & Fixture Coating. The toilet instructions are explicit: start with clean, dry ceramic or porcelain, coat the area above the water line, and wait before use. Lifeproof does not publish an equivalent toilet-bowl procedure, so the two products should not be presented as interchangeable there.
There is an important material limit. The current spotLESS home formulas are for glass, ceramic, porcelain and vitreous china, and the maker says they are not compatible with metal fixtures or metal surfaces. A white ceramic basin may fit; a stainless sink or chrome faucet does not. The maker also recommends monthly reapplication for best results.
The careful wipe after spraying is what keeps glass from looking worse
Both systems need a truly clean, dry surface. Lifeproof is misted on, spread in straight lines and immediately buffed until the haze is gone. Letting too much product dry unevenly can leave the exact streaks a mirror treatment was supposed to prevent. For a conservative first application, keep the Lifeproof surface dry until the coating has fully cured according to the current bottle directions.
Never put a slick coating on a floor, shower floor or tub bottom. Lifeproof explicitly excludes floors because wet coated surfaces can become dangerously slippery. spotLESS liquid formulas also contain a high proportion of isopropyl alcohol before curing, so use ventilation, keep them away from flames and avoid breathing the mist.
It can make the next wipe easier. It cannot erase the work that comes first.
In a hands-on test, The Kitchn found that prepared stainless steel stayed noticeably more resistant to fingerprints after Lifeproof was applied. The test did not establish multi-month durability, and it did not test a toilet. Broader owner feedback follows the same split: many people like the beading, shine and easier wipe-down, while others see incomplete stain prevention or faster wear in wet, frequently touched areas.
This is most useful for someone who already cleans the sink or glass and wants the clean look to survive longer. It is a poor match for anyone expecting one spray to remove old hard-water scale, disinfect the bathroom, or end cleaning permanently. The buying decision is less about which video beads water best and more about the exact surface you need to coat.

The prepared stainless refrigerator in the hands-on test showed visibly fewer fingerprints and a smooth shine after application.
