The first nuggets arrive fast; a full bin does not
GE says the first batch can appear in ten minutes or less. That does not mean three pounds appear in ten minutes. In ideal conditions the Ultra makes up to 1.6 pounds per hour, and a real test measured about 1 pound 3.4 ounces in the first hour.
The clear bin is not a freezer
Nuggets slowly melt. The water runs back into the machine, which uses it to make more ice. Move extra nuggets to a freezer if you want to store them.
Cleaning is part of the recipe
The manual recommends sanitizing often, descaling regularly, and running the rinse cycle three times after descaling. The side tank is hand-wash only. Never mix bleach with citric acid, and drain the machine before a long break.
The good ice comes with a maintenance calendar
Choose the Ultra if several people drink nugget ice daily and the side tank will save real refills. Choose the Mini if the idea is appealing but $499 and 13.4 inches of counter width are too much. Skip both if regular cleaning already feels like the reason your current coffee machine is unused.
