3D PRINTERS
Why Did 3D Printing Suddenly Start Looking Easy?
Fast setup and multicolor videos get the attention. Build size, an open or enclosed body, and what is actually included decide what you should buy.

The video makes one part look magical.
A finished toy appears layer by layer, then four colors arrive without anyone changing the spool by hand. That is an unusually easy product story to understand.
The less glamorous question is what fits on the print bed. A compact printer can be easier to own and still be the wrong size for the thing you planned to make.
What matters after the first successful print?
Filament, spare parts, failed prints, and the space around an open machine become part of the purchase. A color feeder changes colors; it does not automatically mean the filament is being dried.
P2S Combo already includes AMS 2 Pro drying. Buying another dryer on day one would solve a problem that the bundle already addresses.

Bambu Lab A1 mini
Printer onlyChoose this when you want the smallest lower-cost first printer and 180 mm is big enough.
First printer, small desk, PLA/PETG projects
- Build area
- 180 × 180 × 180 mm
- Motion
- Open bed-slinger · up to 500 mm/s
- Materials
- PLA, PETG, TPU, PVA recommended
- Color
- AMS lite optional; not included here
What changes or goes missing
- The small build area rules out larger one-piece prints.
- The open frame is not the right default for warp-prone high-temperature materials.
- AMS lite, filament, spare nozzles, and plates can raise the real starting cost.

Bambu Lab A1 Combo
Printer + AMS liteChoose this when you want a 256 mm build area and the included AMS lite to change among up to four colors.
256 mm prints and up to four-color projects with the included AMS lite
- Build area
- 256 × 256 × 256 mm
- Motion
- Open bed-slinger · up to 500 mm/s
- Setup
- Full-auto calibration · 1080p low-frame camera
- Color
- AMS lite included · up to four colors
What changes or goes missing
- It is open-frame; Bambu does not recommend enclosing the A1 yourself.
- Large ABS/ASA/PC/PA prints can warp or lose layer strength without a controlled chamber.
- Used or old-stock A1 units need a 2024 CPSC recall check before purchase or use.

Anycubic Kobra X
Kobra X · four-color systemChoose it when you want a larger open printer with four-color printing for less than the checked Bambu A1 Combo price.
A 260 mm open printer that starts with four colors and can add more Anycubic color feeders
- Build area
- 260 × 260 × 260 mm
- Motion
- Open bed-slinger · maker-rated maximum 600 mm/s
- Hardware
- 300°C nozzle · automatic leveling · remote printing
- Color
- Four colors to start · expandable to as many as 19
What changes or goes missing
- It is an open printer, so warp-prone high-temperature materials still need realistic temperature and ventilation planning.
- The regular multi-color setup is not an active filament dryer; Anycubic lists drying with ACE 2 Pro.
- It is not a rebranded Bambu printer. Its app, feeder, parts, warranty, and support come from Anycubic.

What changes or goes missing
- The 256 mm build area is the same size as the A1's; the P2S adds an enclosure and print monitoring.
- Enclosure and filtration reduce some problems but do not replace ventilation for fume-producing materials.
- AMS 2 Pro, parts, and accessories are proprietary and are not interchangeable with Creality CFS or Anycubic ACE Pro.

Creality K2 Combo
